We all have a story to tell. Why not tell yours? Whether you want to write your own stories or explore and share your family history, this session will help you start (or jumpstart) your creative writing project. We’ll rely on short published pieces and writing prompts as inspiration to begin new work together in this supportive and interactive writing-intensive workshop. Suitable for all levels.

Sonja Livingston, associate professor in the VCU English department, will guide you through a variety of published pieces and writing prompts that spark inspiration in this supportive and interactive writing-intensive workshop. Suitable for all levels.

The workshop is designed for small groups. Please register early to ensure you can attend.

About the Speaker

Sonja Livingston is the author of four books, including Ghostbread, a memoir of childhood poverty which won an AWP Book Prize for Nonfiction and has been widely adopted for classroom use. Sonja’s latest project, 52 Snapshots: A Memoir Starter Kit, provides writing prompts for works of creative nonfiction and memoir. Sonja’s writing has been honored with New York State Arts Fellowship, an Iowa Review Award, a VanderMey Nonfiction Prize, among others. Sonja is an associate professor in the English Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
