Description
Join the HRC’s Migration Studies Lab for a transformative day of dialogue, research, and discovery at the Latinx Scholarship Symposium, a groundbreaking gathering of scholars in Latino/a studies and migration studies from across Virginia and North Carolina. As Latinx communities face unprecedented challenges, this symposium aims to unite students, foster faculty collaboration, and amplify Latino/a scholarship.
This symposium will feature dynamic panels that explore community-engaged projects and Latino history, an open dialogue on immigration, and a keynote presentation by Tanya Gonzalez, Executive Director at Sacred Heart Center. Learn about newly published books in Latino studies, including Making the Latino South: A History of Racial Formation (UNC Press, 2023) by Cecilia Márquez; Between Here and There: Creating the Political Economy of Mexican Migration 1900-1942 (Oxford University Press, 2024) by Daniel Morales, and The Migrant’s Jail: An American History of Mass Incarceration (Princeton University Press, 2024) by Brianna Nofil.
